SIP or lump sum? The decision is about cashflow

SIPs suit a salary. Lump sums suit surplus. The right mix depends on when the money arrives — not on a market forecast.

SIP or lump sum? The decision is about cashflow

A SIP is a way to invest the same amount on a schedule. A lump sum is money you already have. Neither is morally better. They solve different cashflow problems.

If income arrives monthly and the goal is years away, a SIP keeps the decision small and repeatable. If a bonus, sale, or maturity sits unused, waiting for a “better day” is often just delay.

What we look at together

  • When the money actually arrives
  • When you will need it back
  • How much volatility you can live with without selling in a panic

Funds are the second conversation. The first is the calendar of your cash.
