Motor & Travel Insurance
Protect what moves you. Wherever you go.
From your vehicle to your next trip - understand cover, limits, add-ons and exclusions before you compare premiums.
First decision
What do you need to protect?
Start with the risk - personal vehicle, commercial vehicle or travel - then compare cover, not just premium.
Personal vehicle
Car or bike cover with the right IDV, add-ons and usage assumptions.
Commercial / fleet
When the vehicle earns for you, risk and documentation change.
Travel
Domestic or international trips need destination-specific questions.
Motor insurance
Third-party vs comprehensive
Third-party is legally required. Comprehensive adds own-damage protection - subject to policy wording.
| Topic | Third-party | Comprehensive |
|---|---|---|
| Legal status | Mandatory liability cover | Optional add-on of own-damage to third-party |
| Typically covers | Injury/damage you cause to others | Third-party plus own vehicle damage (per terms) |
| Typically does not | Repair/replace your own vehicle | Exclusions, deductibles and misuse still apply |
| Best starting question | Am I legally covered? | Is own-damage protection worth the premium for this vehicle? |
IDV & NCB
Two numbers that shape premium and claims.
IDV (Insured Declared Value)
An agreed insured value context for the vehicle. Too low can leave a shortfall on total loss; too high can inflate premium without improving settlement logic. Insurers typically apply depreciation bands by vehicle age.
NCB (No Claim Bonus)
Claim-free years can reduce own-damage premium. Slabs, transfer to a new vehicle, and NCB protection add-ons vary by insurer - verify rather than assume.
Add-on comparison
Choose add-ons that match vehicle age and usage.
| Add-on | What it addresses | Often more relevant when |
|---|---|---|
| Zero depreciation | Reduces depreciation deduction on parts | Newer vehicles (often first 5 years) |
| Engine protect | Certain hydrostatic / engine damage scenarios | Flood-prone areas, newer engines |
| Roadside assistance | Towing / on-road help (per terms) | Frequent highway use, older cars, fleets |
| Invoice cover | Newer-vehicle total-loss / theft contexts | Very new financed vehicles |
| Consumables | Oils, nuts, clips and related items in claims | When claim costs routinely include them |
Motor renewal checklist
Review before you renew on autopilot.
- Confirm IDV still makes sense for vehicle age and market value
- Verify NCB entitlement and whether a small claim would cost more than it saves
- Re-check add-ons against current vehicle age and usage
- Update registration, hypothecation and contact details
- Compare deductibles, cashless garages and exclusions - not only premium
Travel insurance
Travel for the experience. Not the financial surprise.
Coverage depends on destination, duration, traveller age, activities and exact policy wording.
Medical emergency
Eligible emergency medical expenses overseas or as defined.
Trip disruption
Cancellation, interruption or delay - check conditions carefully.
Baggage & documents
Loss, delay or passport-related expenses where covered.
Exclusions
Read exclusions before you read the premium.
Student / senior
Longer trips and age change eligibility and limits.
Visa-related
Some destinations may require specified medical cover conditions.

Educational tools
Illustrative checks - not insurer quotes.
These estimators use disclosed assumptions to support a clearer conversation. Fleet exposure is captured in the quote form until a genuine insurer integration is available.
Illustrative depreciated value band only. Actual IDV is set with the insurer.
Illustrative discount band for claim-free years. Insurer slabs and transfer rules vary.
Indicative medical-cover discussion range. Not a policy quote.
Educational relevance only - confirm fit with an advisor before buying.
Don't compare premium alone
Coverage, limits, deductibles, exclusions, add-ons and service all matter.

Limits
